Misc. Acorn RISC PC Pictures

rpc600-1.jpg - 20Kb
A Dual Slice Acorn RISC PC 600 that I used to own. It was upgraded from the
standard ARM 610 processor to a StrongARM 200Mhz and RISC OS 4.39

rpc600-2.jpg - 20Kb
A close up view of the front of the machine with drive bays closed.

rpc600-3.jpg - 20Kb
A front view with drive bays open showing CD-RW drive and 3.5" Floppy Disc.

rpc600-4.jpg - 20Kb
The rear of the machine showing podule blanking plates and Network Card Installed.

rpc600-5.jpg - 20Kb
A view inside the top of the machine, showing 4 slot backplane fitted.

rpc600-6.jpg - 20Kb
A view of the boot screen. 74Mb RAM ( 1x 64MB , 1 x 8MB + 1MB VRAM )
StrongARM Processor and RISC OS Adjust 1i2 Operating System in ROM.

rpc600-7.jpg - 20Kb
A view of the machine up and running showing the desktop.

rpc600-8.jpg - 20Kb
A view of the Risc OS 4.39 upgrade pack. (The ROMS are in the machine).

rpc600-9.jpg - 20Kb
this is a view of all the old components I took out during the upgrade including;
CD-ROM drive and interface, Hard Drive, Old PC Processor card, Old ARM610 CPU
Old RISC OS 3.5 ROMS, kept in-case anyone wanted to revert to a standard machine.

riscos_six.jpg - 20Kb
A RISC OS SIX upgrade CD. This was a 'soft-load' upgrade in that it used 4.39 as a
base and loaded from hard disc over the top. This had the negative effect of
increasing boot time. I also did not like the changes made with SIX. I still
believe that 4.39 was the best and above all it was in ROM so fast boot times.

RPC_2nd_Slice.jpg - 20Kb
A Second 'Slice' upgrade including 4-slot backplane, Extended case pins and
RF shield plate that fitted between slices just behind the front facia panel.

rpcfeet.jpg - 20Kb
A set or RISC PC 'FEET' for use in mounting the RISC PC in a vertical 'tower'
position in place of its usual 'desktop' case orientation. Acorn issued a notice
stating that the feet must only be used with two slice and above machines as to
mount a single slice machine vertically could be risky due to toppling of the
base unit. Well you would have to give it a good push to make it go over!

sarpc_front.jpg - 20Kb
A view of my main StrongARM RISC PC with drive bays closed (left) and open (right)
The top slice on mine held a second CD drive and also a second Hard Drive.

sarpc_mintpc.jpg - 20Kb
A view of my workhorse RISC PC next to a Shuttle XPC Linux machine that I used.

sarpc_rear.jpg - 20Kb
A rear view showing ViewFinder Graphics Card (top) and Fully enabled UNI-POD
in the lower podule bay. The Ultimate RISC PC upgrades at the time.

sarpc_usb.jpg - 20Kb
A close-up view of the ViewFinder Card output and Unipod rear ports.

sarpc_side_open.jpg - 20Kb
A view inside the machine showing second hard drive and extra cooling fan that I fitted
at the top right. Just because I was running 2 hard drives and there is not a lot of room
for cooling air to get around inside that case. Mounting vertically also helps as the PSU
is now at the bottom, blowing air up through the case and out the top (helped by the extra fan).
